Free Saturday Tasting, Saturday, September 11th.; 2010; 1 to 4pm

freesaturday_email.jpgSummer is a great time to explore new wines that fit the season...so with that in mind Eberhard will be pouring four of his favorite go to summer wines. Two diverse whites to satisfy a broad variety of summer dishes and two distinctly different reds to again accomodate a broad range of late summer foods. Bring a friend and meet like-minded wine aficionados at the AWM tasting bar as Eberhard introduces you to these outstanding values this coming Saturday.

2009 Château Petit Roubié Picpoul de Pinet; Coteaux du Languedoc, France This 2009 Picpoul (the Muscadet of southern France) offers an explosive, pure, herb-edged, ripe citrus-scented bouquet, an excellent texture, a medium-bodied palate and a dry, fresh, fruit-filled finish. A great seafood wine, especially with shellfish, this also makes an ideal aperitif and picnic companion. It comes from a terroir of limestone, sand, and clay and needs the maritime influence of the Mediterranean to ripen fully. This older vine selection is a beauty!
AWM Regular Price: $11.99 per bottle
Special Tasting Price: $10.79 per bottle or $9.59 by the case

2009 Domaine Pascal & Mireille Renaud Mâcon-Villages; Burgundy, France This is another classic example of French Chardonnay at its best. From a single vineyard, this wine gets its intensity of flavor and depth from the concentrated fruit that the 40 year old vineyard provides. A beautiful nose of spicy fruit with pear, apple and almond nuances gives way to a ripe, perfectly balanced palate of fruit that is set off nicely by delicate toasty elements from the sur lies ageing this wine sees. Very pure with a lively band of ripe acidity that makes this a great wine for the dinner table. After you swallow this wine, the flavors seem to intensify - its refreshing to be able to buy a wine of this quality for so little.
AWM Regular Price: $12.99 per bottle
Special Tasting Price: $11.69 per bottle or $10.39 by the case

2008 Arnoux et Fils Vieux Clocher Ventoux; Côtes du Ventoux, France This dark ruby-colored wine reveals sweet red and black fruit and spice aromas. It is medium-bodied, nicely extracted and concentrated. This black cherry, spice, wild berry and grilled herb-flavored wine is a serious, four-square, juicy expression of Grenache and Syrah. Drink now through 2012. This is as tasty as  many wines costing much more! Great on a picnic, delicious with pork and grilled fowl.
AWM Regular Price: $9.99 per bottle
Special Tasting Price: $8.99 per bottle or $7.99 by the case

2008 Château Gasparets; Corbières, France This is a sophisticated wine showing lots of depth and polish. A blend of old vine Grenache, Carignan and Syrah; this wine exhibits lots of ripe red and black fruit aromas and flavors that are set off nicely by a touch of brown spice. This wine is complex with a delicate spiciness and touch of the garrique … all in all one would be hard pressed to find better value in this part of France. Tasty just by itself or with cheeses, but to really show it off, this wine would be great with a grilled meat dish.
