"The backward 2005 Fontenil displays some of the vintage’s structured tannins and potential ageability. Sweet raspberry, black currant, crushed rock, and spring flower aromas emerge from this medium-bodied effort. It possesses beautiful concentration and purity, but requires another 1-2 years of bottle age. It should keep for 15+ years.
There is no doubting the consistent quality that emerges from this top-notch Fronsac estate (the residence of the brilliant oenologists Dany and Michel Rolland)." 90+points Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate April 2008
Just when you thought you had missed out on the fabulous 2005 vintage we are happy to offer this fabulous wine at a price that has to be the best around. We tried this wine several weeks ago and were extremely impressed by the elegance and class that this first rate Fronsac exhibits.
No newcomer to our shelves, many of you may remember the outstanding 1998 and 2000 vintages that we touted highly, the 2005 offers classic Merlot notes of dark cherries complicated by subtle oak spice notes, a rich mid-palate of elegant fruit exhibiting fine tannins, and a lengthy, complex finish. The 2005 has stepped up to the front part of its plateau of maturity and should continue to evolve very favorably and provide lots of pleasurable drinking over the next 5-7 years. Try this with grilled lamb or beef over the summer months for a real treat.
