2006 Domaine Bertagna "Les Croix Blanches"; Bourgogne Rouge, France

bertagnaCroixBlanchesWeb.jpgAs all of us who love Burgundies know, growing Pinot Noir and making great wine in the little sliver of a slope between Dijon and Beaune is no easy matter. From 2001 to today, the one constant for the winemaking at the Domaine Bertagna is that Denis Rozat has been in charge of all the day to day winemaking tasks. It is Denis Rozat's passion for purity and finesse that is the signature of this domaine and has propelled it into the top ranks of Burgundy estates. This wine hails from a small plot of high density planted vines, 35 years old, yielding about 600 cases. The 2006 Bourgogne "Les Croix Blanches" leads with lovely black raspberry and cassis notes, backed by smoky meatiness not unlike the 2005, but with slightly richer and more immediate fruit. In the mouth and finish, this displays substantiality, fat, and grip, but without sacrificing any of the fresh-fruit character that characterizes all of the wines of this domaine. Deep meatiness, chalk, and fruit pit bitterness lend gravitas to the long lingering fruit. Drinking well now this classic rendition of Burgundian Pinot Noir should continue to evolve for at least 2-3 additional years.
Perfect with pork tenderloin, roasted meat or game bird dishes and also very nice with grilled fish.

$24.99 per bottle or $254.90/case $21.24
