2008 was a year marked by heat spikes throughout the Australian vineyards which caused many of the quality producers to forego or severely curtail production of their top cuveé wines. So at many well known wine addresses more high quality material was available for the value wines.
The Milton Park wines have had a long string of Best Buy recommendations from Mr. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and this vintage is no exception, garnering a Best Buy at 88 points.
Here is what they had to say: "Thorn-Clarke is a fine source for values from Australia. There are three levels of wine, the Milton Park series lined priced at $13, the Terra Barossa series line priced at $15, and the Shotfire series line priced at $24. Typically they can be found discounted at hard to resist prices.
The 2008 Milton Park Shiraz was aged in American oak. Aromas of spice box, plum, anise, and blueberry lead to a sweetly-fruited, smooth-textured wine with good depth and a medium-long finish. It can be enjoyed over the next 3-4 years."
We would recommend drinking this with rich meat-based pasta dishes, grilled sausages, burgers, roasts, and barbequed pork ribs.
$11.99 per bottle or $122.30/cs ($10.19)
