Paul Direder is now nineteen years old and making quite a splash in Austria as one of the "Jungwinzer" (young vintner) whiz kids. With access to his grandfather Leopold's support, wisdom and vineyards, and with tutelge from one of Austria's top wine makers, Anton Bauer, it is no wonder that these fruit driven wines have garnered accolades.

We were introduced to Paul Direder on one of our annual Austrian buying trips back in January of 2009 and were immediately smitten by the quality of these very reasonably priced wines. Trimming back the yields through careful but vigorous pruning of his grandfather's vineyards, practicing ecologically sound vineyard management, and enlisting top-notch consulting advice have put the desired quality result in the bottle.

This is a pure, ripe, cherry-filled, polished, sappy, lip-smacking, and juicy expression of Zweigelt that finishes with an interesting subtle fruit-pit bitterness. Perfect any time, this is a crowd pleasing wine that define pleasure, price worthiness, and quality. Great with pork, fowl and spicy dishes.
