Another great Bordeaux vintage? Perhaps THE greatest? 'Oh no', I hear you groan. After the en primeur tastings in April proved the point - 2010 is up there with the very best- it is decidedly correct to offer this great vintage as a futures offering. Dry conditions and warm rather than excessive daytime temperatures in August and September, coupled with cool nights were the keys to success. Low yields (particularly for the Merlot), due to coulure (shot berries) and millerandage (abnormal fruit set) also contributed. "We've never seen this level of concentration and finesse," says Gabrile Vialard, technical director of Margaux second growth Château Rauzan-Segla.
"It is an inescapable truth that 2010 has produced another year of compelling Bordeaux that will go down as a prodigious vintage alongside 2009. I have tasted enough wines from 2005, 2009 and 2010 to realize that these may be the three greatest Bordeaux vintages that I have tasted in my career." Robert M. Parker, Jr.
We have built our Bordeaux section and previous futures selections around the premise of finding outstanding value from one of the greatest wine regions in the world. Our offerings for the 2010 futures campaign will continue that theme.
If there are specific wines that you are interested in please call or email your request and we will contact you on availablity and price.
We have also offered futures only in great vintages and we have always delivered without fail since 1993.

Château Barde Haut; St. Emilion
Readers looking for an exuberant, nearly flamboyant, exceptionally well-made St.-Emilion should check out this effort from the Garcin family, which has done such a fabulous job with their Graves, Haut-Bergey, and Pomerol, Clos l’Eglise. A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc from a beautifully situated vineyard near Troplong Mondot and Trottevielle, this cuvee reveals terrific fruit on the attack, mid-palate and finish. Abundant cassis and black cherry characteristics are presented in a juicy, savory, broadly textured style. The vintage’s freshness, precision and zesty acids give uplift to a big, opulent, fleshy wine. Consume it over the next decade or more.

Domaine du Bouscat "Cadus"; Bordeaux Superieur
Proprietor Francois Dubernard’s over-achieving estate consists of 20 acres of vines just across the street from Fronsac. The consulting winemaker is the brilliant Claude Gros. Bouscat’s 2010 Cadus, a blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% of both Malbec and Cabernet Franc, exhibits abundant mulberry and blueberry fruit intermixed with notions of spring flowers. The wine possesses unmistakable minerality, medium body and sweet tannins. Drink this delicious 2010 during its first 4-5 years of life.
$168.00 per case/$14.00 - 87-89 points Robert Parker
Château Cambon la Pelouse;" Haut-Medoc
A major sleeper of the vintage from this 100-acre vineyard near Cantemerle and Giscours, the 2010 is a blend of 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot produced under the guidance of well-known consultant, Claude Gros. An opaque ruby/purple color is followed by sweet black raspberry, black cherry and black currant fruit notes intermixed with notions of licorice and graphite. Medium to full-bodied and supple textured, this sexy Bordeaux should be consumed over the next 5-8 years.

Château Carignan;" Bordeaux
This sleeper of the vintage offers plenty of black currant and black cherry fruit as well as underlying forest floor and floral notes. Its purity, textural build up and intensity exceed the appellation’s standards. It is a noteworthy effort for value conscious consumers to seek out. Drink it over the next 2-4 years.

Château Gigault Cuvée Viva; Côtes de Blaye
Under the guidance of consulting winemaker Stephane Derenoncourt, this blend of 80% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc hit 14% natural alcohol. Its deep ruby hue is accompanied by caramel, sweet berry, raspberry and currant notes intermixed with a hint of oak, medium-bodied flavors, silky tannins and surprising depth. A sleeper of the vintage, it should be consumed over the next 3-4 years.
$240.00 per case/$20.00 - 89-90 points Robert Parker
Château Haut Bergey; Pessac Leognan
This estate is well-worth following given the fact that is always a realistic value and in most top vintages an over-achiever as well. Owned by the Garcin family, the 2010 Haut-Bergey (from a vineyard near Haut-Bailly) is composed of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot (unusual for this area). Possessing a deep ruby/purple hue as well as notes of creosote, charcoal, tobacco leaf, black currants and cherries, this sleeper of the vintage is opulent and luscious with a multilayered texture. Surprisingly forward with excellent freshness and depth, no hard edges, and a heady finish, it can be enjoyed over the next 10-12 years.
$480.00 per case/$40.00 - 92-94 points Robert Parker 92-95 points Wine spectator
Château Lanessan; Haut-Medoc
Attractive notes of cedarwood, unsmoked cigar tobacco, red and black currants and loamy soil characterize this surprisingly soft, round, medium-bodied Lanessan. Although not the superstar value it can be in certain vintages, it is still a very good Medoc that should evolve nicely for 10-15 years given its tannic structure.
$264.00 per case/$22.00 - 88-89+ points Robert Parker Sold Out
Château La Croix Mouton; Bordeaux Superieur
One of the finest generic, lower level wines is La Croix-Mouton, which is owned and made by Jean-Philippe Janoueix. A strong effort, the opaque purple-colored 2010 offers up notes of creosote, blackberries, licorice and background oak. Medium-bodied, richly fruity, broad and savory, it should be enjoyed over the next 5-6 years.
$204.00 per case/$17.00 - 89-91 points Robert Parker
Château Marjosse; Bordeaux
Owned by Cheval Blanc’s general manager, Pierre Lurton, Marjosse is always a friend of shrewd consumers seeking value-priced Bordeaux. The dark ruby/purple-tinged 2010 exhibits abundant notes of mulberries and black cherries intertwined with subtle herb, earth and oak characteristics. Drink it during its first 2-3 years of life as this cuvee rarely ages.
$168.00 per case/$14.00 - 86-88 points Robert Parker
Château Pezat; Bordeaux Superieur
An excellent effort from Jonathan Malthus, this value-priced, lower-level Bordeaux is normally a blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. The 2010 is exactly what one expects from an inexpensive but well-made Bordeaux. Soft tannins, deep berry fruit, a nice, medium-bodied, fleshy texture, and clean finish all make for a delicious wine to drink in its first 3-4 years of life.
$180.00 per case/$15.00 - 86-88 points Robert Parker
Château Poujeaux; Moulis
An undeniable sleeper of the vintage, this may be the finest Poujeaux I have tasted in three decades. A crushed rock/mineral character is intertwined with abundant black currant, blackberry, incense and camphor notes in this full-bodied, unctuously textured, elegant, pure effort. It is capable of lasting 15 years. Kudos to new proprietor Philippe Cuvelier (also the owner of St.-Emilion’s Clos Fourtet) for resurrecting this well-known estate.
$480.00 per case/$40.00 - 90-92 points Robert Parker 88-91 points Wine spectator
Château Serilhan; St. Estephe
I believe this is the first Serilhan vintage to boast Hubert de Bouard as the winemaking consultant. The strongest effort I have tasted from this 60-acre estate, it is composed of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and hit 14% natural alcohol. A soft, round, generous, opaque plum-colored wine, it offers abundant notes of black cherries and black currants intermixed with hints of herbs and earth. Drink this sleeper of the vintage over the next 10-15 years.
$336.00 per case/$28.00 - 90-92 points Robert Parker
Château Teyssier; Montagne St. Emilion
The biggest production cuvee from creative/innovative proprietor and wine producer Jonathan Malthus, Teyssier can make as much as 15,000 cases. It is a property on the wrong side of the road, so to speak, in St.-Emilion, near another overachiever, Monbousquet. A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, the 2010 Teyssier has a dense purple color, a big, sweet kiss of black fruits, licorice, earth and oak, medium to full body, generous flesh and moderately sweet tannins as well as a hint of toasty oak. It should drink nicely for 7-10 years
$288.00 per case/$24.00 - 88-91 points Robert Parker 89-92 points Wine spectator
Château Tour Saint Bonnet; Medoc
A well-known, perennial sleeper of the vintage, Tour St.-Bonnet’s wines are always well-made, under-valued and taste like a mini-version of the well-known Pauillac, Grand-Puy-Lacoste. The dark purple-colored 2010 offers copious amounts of blueberry and black currant fruit, a richly fruity mouthfeel, admirable texture and sweet tannin. Enjoy it over the next 5-6 years.
$192.00 per case/$16.00 - 87-88 points Robert Parker
We will be adding to the list as the weeks go by and of course deleting certain wines as they sell out. Many of theses wines are available in small quantities, so if you decide to purchase any of these we suggest making a decision sooner rather than later as we probably can not go back to get more!
