2013 Moulin d’Argent Chardonnay “Vieilles Vignes”; VDP du Val de Loire, France

herbaugesChard2012webThis estate is situated just 7.5 miles away from Nantes, within a triangle of the Atlantic Ocean, the Loire River and the Lake of Grand Lieu. Created in 1864, the estate has been run by the Choblet family for five generations. Nowadays, two generations of the family are still sharing and providing their respective experience to the profit of this great vineyard, certainly the most prestigious and reputed of the Muscadet Côtes de Gran-d’Lieu Appellation. While using up to date technologies to allow separate vinifications and expressions of the richness and diversity of each precise terroir and parcel, the Choblet family pays particular attention to and respects the environment of all their holdings. Their entire vineyard has been cultivated using sustainable agriculture practices since 1980.

Not often found in the market, this is 100% un-oaked Chardonnay. Ripe and filled with lovely aromas and flavors of ripe pears, quince, and apples, this is a joy to drink. Medium-bodied, fresh and showing nice purity, this wine is nicely fruit-driven and ends on a refreshingly clean note. Great with cheeses,  seafood or fowl, this works great by itself too. This is dry, fresh and lively Chardonnay, with a perfect twist of lemon acidity.
This is a superb value!
