2012 Viña de Castilla “El Cortjillo” Tempranillo, La Mancha, Spain

elCortijilloWebThis Tempranillo based wine provides hedonistic enjoyment at a very low cost! Boasting a rich nose of red and black fruits as well as subtle spices, this delicious wine comes through on the palate with very pleasing, velvety flavors of black cherry, kirsch, dark plum, and subtle brown spice. Great with pizza, sausages or burgers.

The up front aromas of raspberry and cherry fruit found in this wine are pretty, the medium-bodied palate is Rhône like in character, with spicy cherry fruit flavors, and all is kept lively by a bright band of  acidity. This wine reminds us of a hypothetical cross between a Pinot Noir and a Côtes-du-Rhône. Pleasant and fun, this is a classic bistro red perfect for summer enjoyment.

“Light, bright red. High-pitched red berries and peppery spices on the nose and palate. Clean and racy in the mouth, finishing with good clarity and zesty persistence. This would be good with a light chill. – JR”- Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar (September 2013), 88 pts
