2013 Fontes “Fontesole” Rouge; VDP D’OC, France

fontesoleRgeWebIn the foothills of the southern Cévennes, close to the famous city of Pézenas, the vineyards of Fontès spread over a mosaic of terroirs (schist, basalt,clay-limestone). The vines, cultivated on terraces also benefit from the influence of a Mediterranean micro-climate, which contributes to the production of high-quality wines. Official records testify that vines appeared in Fontès area as early as the 1st and 2nd centuries AD. In the 18th century, grapes represented only one third of local crop total, sharing the land with olives and small grains. Today the vines cover 95% of the cultivable land of the village.

This wine is a blend of 40% Syrah, 45% Merlot, and 15% Grenache grown on schist, basalt, limestone and clay terraces in the foothills near Cévennes.
