Bodegas Volver Paso a Paso Verdejo; La Mancha, Spain The 2008 Paso a Paso Verdejo is the first Verdejo made in La Mancha. The grapes were sourced from a vineyard planted in 1998 with small yields of only 1.6 tons per acre. Medium straw-colored, it reveals notes of mineral and fresh lemon. Medium-bodied, crisp, and tasty, this nicely balanced effort has a refreshing finish. It is a very good value considering that most Verdejos from Rueda begin at an average of $14.

2008 Jorge Ordoñez Botani; Sierras de Malaga, Spain A collaborative effort between Jorge and Alois Kracher, from Austria, the 2008 Botani is 100% Moscatel de Alejandria fermented 70% in stainless steel and 30% in French oak. From old vines grown on unique red slate soils and from a perfect micro-climate, this is a perfect expression of a dry Malaga wine. Medium straw-colored, it has an alluring perfume of spring flowers, honey, spice box, and tropical fruits. Smooth-textured, ripe, dry, and mouth-filling, this expressive effort is an excellent match for sushi and Thai food.

2008 Bodegas Borsao "Borsao"; Campo de Borja, Spain The dark ruby-colored 2008 Borsao (80% Garnacha/20% Tempranillo) reveals a sweet perfume of black cherries and black berries. Medium-bodied and loaded with ripe, sweet-edged red fruit, this remarkable effort will last for several years. Very consistent from vintage to vintage, this is very smooth and supple, and a bargain to boot. The finish is lengthy and reveals the tell-tale hints of white pepper that make Grenache so exciting and allow it to be paired so well with pork dishes and BBQ. Very nice alternative to Pinot Noir at a give-away price.
Regular Price $7.69 Tasting special $6.92/bottle or $6.15 by the case.
2006 Bodegas Borsao Crianza Seleccion; Campo de Borja, Spain The 2006 Crianza Seleccion is purple-colored with a fragrant nose of cedar, spice box, black cherry, and black currant. Smooth-textured, savory, and ripe, it has excellent depth, concentration, and length. This is drinking very well now and should continue to drink well to 2016. A blend of Grenache 50%, Tempranillo 25%, and Cabernet Sauvignon 25% from dry-farmed mountain vineyards, this packs in lots of rich flavors!
