Tonight's Friday Night Pop-Up tasting with Kate introduces the "Collection Series" from Jérémie Mourat, an exciting young vigneron located in Mareuil-sur-Lay-Dissais in the center of Fiefs Vendéens. Viticulture in this region dates back to Roman times with the establishing of vineyard sites as early as the 6th century AD. While not exactly a household name in the world of Loire wines, this region produces some outstanding reds, whites, and rosé. Mourat's 67 hectares of hillside vineyards are a mere 20k from the coast of the Atlantic and the soil of quartz, schist and clay produce wines with spectacular freshness, lift, and minerality.
The "Collection" series from Mourat was an instant hit here at the shop with both staff and customers. We love the cool throw-back old school bottle but the real treat is in the glass. These are spectacular values that are perfectly suited for summer meals, sipping on the porch or quaffing with friends and family at the beach. Larry will certainly be loading up some of these gems for the annual family trip to the Outer Banks!
2016 J. Mourat "Collection" Val de Loire White: The bright golden color introduces this blend of Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay. Citrus and tree fruits mingle both on the nose and palate offering a nice richness that finishes perfectly clean and lifted. Expect notes of lemony citrus and peaches with hints of white flowers. Would be marvelous with fish, shellfish, chicken and will stand up nicely to pork.

2016 J. Mourat, “Collection” Val de Loire Rosé: A superb addition to our ever growing collection of French Rosé! The blend of Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Gamay, and Negrette fashion a Rosé with beautifully delicate red fruit notes that sing over top a beam of salty minerality. If you love the wines of Provence, then this is a great Rosé for you to try! We love this with spicy Cajun shellfish dishes, grilled salmon and any kind of spicy BBQ you can throw at it!

2016 J. Mourat, “Collection” Val de Loire Red: This is a perfect red for summer enjoyment! It's a rather interesting blend of three prominent varietals from the Loire and one a bit off the radar: Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Gamay and Négrette. Although notes of red fruits prevail, the Négrette adds a touch of dark fruit and density to this medium-bodied red making it a super versatile warm weather wine. Enjoy with a wide variety of foods, but like the other "Collection" wines, it's perfectly great just on its own!
