2011 Weingut Michlits Pinot Noir Frizzante; Burgenland, Austria

The 2011 Weingut Michlits Pinot Noir Frizzante is made in the Burgenland region of Austria. The winery itself is located on the east side of Neusiedlersee (Europe’s largest steppe lake), next to the edge of the Hungarian lowland plains. The winery is organic (since 2005) and certified biodynamic. Their website has details about their biodynamic philosophy. They also raise Angus cattle on their property as well as mixed small grains and other fruits.

This refreshing Pinot Noir sparkler offers an engaging nose of red fruits with strawberry and currant notes. The delicately sparkling palate is light and refreshing with a slight off-dry fruitiness. Perfect as an aperitif or with spicy dishes and makes a great party wine. The wedding wine for this young wine-making couple was so popular on their big day that it has been made every year since.
