2016 Jovino Pinot Noir Dobbes Family Estates Willamette Valley Oregon

Finding great Pinot Noir from the West Coast under $20 a bottle is tricky business at best. Finding one that is under $20 and also great quality is very difficult. Let me introduce you to one that fits this description perfectly: Jovino.

Unbeatable value in West Coast Pinot Noir!

I opine quite frequently about how I love to find an outstanding European producer and then drill down to their entry level wines to find outstanding quality and value for AWM customers. I’m delighted to say the same goes for Jovino Pinot Noir. This gem of West Coast Pinot is one of the best I’ve tasted at this price!

Jovino is the entry-level wine from one of the Willamette Valley’s most outstanding independent producers — Dobbes Family Estates. Starting with the estates’ home base in the Dundee Hills, they have close to 700 acres of vineyard holdings in the some of the best areas of the Willamette and Rogue Valleys — including the Chehalem Mountains, Eola-Amity and McMinnville Appellations.

Dobbes Family Estates source Jovino from a wide variety of their vineyard holdings

Joe Dobbes is the consummate West Coast winemaker — totally driven by the desire to make wines that truly represent his home region. Joe is a true Oregon native, born and raised in a small town in the north Willamette Valley. His winemaking career started in Germany and France, where he spent his early years learning the art and science of winemaking. His apprenticeships at Wiengut Erbhof Tesch, in the German Nahe region, and at Domaine G. Roumier and Domaine Comtes Lafon in Burgundy, cemented his commitment to quality –and provided him with the essential skills and foundation to establish Dobbs Family Estates.

Classic Willamet Pinot at a bargain price

Simply put, this wine is a bargain! It’s offered almost exclusively as a restaurant pour, so it’s not often available in retail. I can see exactly why it’s so popular in restaurants — it’s a great pair for a multitude of cuisine. and it’s terrific simply on it’s own!

On the nose you’re greeted with bright notes of cherry and red raspberry leading to a palate of fresh red fruits and crushed red berry. There’s a wonderfully subtle mix of toasty oak spice and smoky notes that rounds out the silky palate. This is a terrific easy-going Pinot Noir that’s a treat in the glass and one of the most reasonably prices Pinots around!
