Bodegas Hinojosa Barricas Malbec Tunuyán and Tupungato Mendoza, Argentina

Fresh and Friendly Malbec

Barricas Malbec is produced entirely with hand-harvested grapes from the Tunuyán and Tupungato Departments in Mendoza, two of Argentina’s top wine regions. This fun, young wine is focused on balance, elegance and varietal typicity (accurate expression of each variety’s characteristic aromas and flavors).

In Mendoza, Malbec is quite at home — thanks to the high altitude (4000 feet) and pure, clean water from the Andes mountains, the wines are packed with expressive fruit and complex structure. In addition, the extreme diurnal temperature variations (sometimes a 50-degree swing) allow the fruit to ripen in a more balanced fashion. The warmer temperatures during the day aid in sugar development and the cool nighttime temperatures work to preserve freshness and aromatics, while also helping to balance the acidity.

Every March, third-generation winemaker José Hinojosa personally chooses fruit for Barricas from the family vineyards throughout the region. His 2018 bottling is beautifully lifted with ripe, soft tannins, making it a perfect mid-weight red for the fall season.

In the glass, you’ll enjoy notes of blueberry, dark red berry and cherry, and hints of vanilla, chocolate, and spice. This medium-bodied red can be enjoyed with a variety of fall dishes and will be at home with all of your favorite seasonal soups, stews, and ragouts.

If you’re looking for an easy-drinking style of Malbec to enjoy through the fall, this is your bottle!
