Bordeaux 2019 Discovery Pack

A Bordeaux Lover's Dream - 2019 Holiday Bordeaux Dixcovery 6-Pack

Bordeaux was my first real “ah-ha” moment in wine. Like a lot of fledgling wine aficionados, my first experience with wine began with fruit-forward easy-drinking, easy to understand wines. In that context, my first introduction to Bordeaux was a real eye-opener. It introduced me to the concept of terroir– the idea that the wine in your glass can reflect the land, climate and even the culture of the region in which it was produced. Wine made in Bordeaux is a textbook example of this concept!

Bordeaux is a powerhouse of a wine-producing region steeped in history and tradition. The region is most famous for producing highly-sought-after reds, blended from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot — along with smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Carménère.

The blend and types of grapes used vary considerably all throughout Bordeaux. The Gironde River runs through the center of the Bordeaux region and properties on the river’s “Left Bank” tend to feature significantly more Cabernet Sauvignon. On the “Right Bank,” the wines are more Merlot driven, and in other areas, Cabernet Franc and Malbec take the front seat.

The Bordeaux Discovery Pack is selected from all throughout Bordeaux

2015 Château Peyrabon Haut-Médoc
50% Cabernet Sauvignon – 50% Merlot
The 2015 Peyrabon has a perfumed nose driven by crushed strawberry and red currant aromas neatly entwined with the oak. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, a fine line of acidity, and good density towards the finish that delivers an attractive, spiced aftertaste. It’s the star of our 6-pack and should drink well for a decade.

2015 Château De Cugat Bordeaux Supérieur
60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon
Ripe notes of blackcurrant, cherry and a touch of licorice.

2015 Château Roquefort Bordeaux
90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon
This Merlot-forward blend shows red and black cherry on the nose with hints of vanilla and spice on the palate.

2016 Château Coulonge Tradition Bordeaux
80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon
The vineyard soil is a blend of clay and limestone with southern exposure lending the supple fruit a wonderful mineral underpinning. This is a selection from my good friend Jean-Christian Rostagni.

2015 Château Cap Royal Bordeaux Supérieur
70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot
Classic Left Bank Cuvee that’s been a customer and staff favorite. Earthy aromas of spice and dark berries float around subtle, yet present oak shadings. Notes of vanilla, mocha, and cedar introduce the palate and as the wine opens in the glass, dark berry flavors mingle with classic hints of graphite.

2016 Château Coulonge Homage Malbec
100% Malbec
This rare item is another selection from Jean-Christian Rostagni and it’s been a hit from the first day it arrived at the shop. Aromas of spicy dark berries waft around the glass with hints of smoke and spice leading to a palate of berry compote. Soft, yet present tannins are polished all throughout the lengthy finish.
