California revisited: quality meets value – Thursday, November 1st., 2012 – 7:00 p.m., Asheville Wine Market Cellar

California had its share of problems in the past (phylloxera most notably) – that actually resulted in positive changes. Better variety placements, sustainable vineyard practices, reduced new oak usage, expansion into marginal growing areas, greater self confidence in allowing their own terroir to speak, and more natural wine making have yielded exciting new wines. From great Sparkling wines to Chardonnay, to Sauvignon Blanc, to Zinfandel, to Cabernet, and exciting new blends, California has been on an upward move offering more quality and value due to increased pressure from the rest of the world.
