Domaine des Laballe “Les Terres Basses” Rouge; Côtes de Gascogne, France

In 1820 Jean Dominique Laudet, back from the West Indies (where he spent 20 years in the spice business) decided to realize his dream: to spend the rest of his life producing the oldest alcohol of France, Armagnac. That was then; now the 8th generation continues to produce outstanding Armagnac as well as award winning wines like these. Laballe is  one of the best value wines in France, evidenced by consistently being a gold medal winner in Paris and at local fairs.

2011 Laballe Les Terres Rouge
This Tannat/Syrah blend exhibits a bright, ruby color. It is aromatically very complex on the nose, with notes of ripe red fruits, spices, and pepper. The mouth is elegant, soft, and fruity. Notes of spice, violet, and blackberry are balanced against the light tannins which add a touch of structure to this wine. Great as a party wine!
