2010 Cave de Pomerols HB Picpoul de Pinet: Coteaux du Languedoc, France
Offering excellent value, the 2010 Picpoul de Pinet H-B (from the region’s Cave de Pomerols coop) smells of clover, lemon, and the refreshment of an ocean breeze. Subtly chalky and saline on the palate and lilting in its refreshing lemon, lime, and flowers, this is a perfect seafood, both fin and shellfish, or “refrigerator white”.

2010 Domaine des Herbauges Chardonnay; VDP du Val de Loire
Not often found in the market, this is 100% un-oaked Chardonnay. Ripe and filled with lovely aromas and flavors of ripe pears, quince, and apples, this is a joy to drink. Medium-bodied, fresh and showing nice purity, this wine is nicely fruit-driven and ends on a refreshingly clean note. Great with cheeses,  seafood or fowl, this works great by itself too.

Tasting Special: $11.69 per bottle or $11.04 by the case

2011 Domaine Verdier-Logel “Cuvée des Gourmands”; Côtes du Forez, France
The Côtes du Forez is located between the Loire and Allier rivers in the center of France and this domaine is the leading estate in this appellation. Dark ruby-colored with a nose that reveals cherry and earthy mineral aromas, this wine has gorgeous amplitude, coating the taster’s palate with softly-textured, ripe blueberries and black cherries that are intermingled with subtle tobacco notes. This elegant, medium-bodied, finely-structured wine has a seamless palate that is flavorful, fruit-filled and just plain delicious. Terrific for any menu where versatility is needed. Great with pork, fowl or red meats.

2008 Château Bellevue la Foret; Fronton, France
Chateau Bellevue La Foret was established in 1974 a year before Côtes du Frontonnais was accorded Appellation Contrôlée status. The estate’s “flagship” wine is made from 50% Negrette, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc and 25% Syrah/Gamay. The varieties are fermented separately in temperature controlled vats. A blend is made and is then aged in vat for a year before bottling. If you like Bordeaux wines this is right up your alley with an additional nuance of earthy funkiness. Dry, nicely polished red that drinks well now, this is packed with red and black fruit character.
